Tirpitz — Historic Timber Pen
A Remarkable Piece of Naval History, Preserved in Your Hand
This handcrafted pen is made from authentic timber recovered from Tirpitz, the German battleship and sister ship to Bismarck. The material carries the strength, character, and story of a vessel that dominated Allied attention throughout the Second World War. Holding it is like carrying a preserved fragment of history — shaped by time, conflict, and craftsmanship.
The Story of Tirpitz
Launched in 1939, Tirpitz was the largest battleship ever built in Europe. Stationed in Norwegian fjords for much of the war, she posed a constant threat to Arctic convoys supplying the Soviet Union. Her presence alone forced the Allies to divert enormous resources to monitor, contain, and ultimately neutralise her.
Despite repeated attacks by aircraft, midget submarines, and heavy bombers, Tirpitz survived numerous operations before finally being sunk in 1944 during Operation Catechism. After the war, salvage teams recovered sections of her original timber — material that had endured Arctic winters, saltwater, and the ship’s dramatic final chapter.
This historic wood has now been transformed into a limited number of handcrafted pens, each one a quiet, respectful tribute to a ship whose influence shaped naval strategy throughout the war.
